Klaas-Jan Huntelaar looks set to leave Schalke’s Veltins-Arena in Germany with Arsenal seen as the favoured Premier League destination for the Dutch striker.

Since leaving Ajax in 2006 Huntelaar had found great difficulty in securing first team football until moving to Schalke 04. Since 2010 he’s bagged 41 league goals in 69 appearances for the German outfit, 29 of which lead to the Dutch striker being named the Bundesliga’s top-scorer.

Former Liverpool striker Erik Meijer and fellow client of Arnold Oosterveer - Huntelaar’s agent – revealed to The Daily Mail  that the Dutch international is looking to depart in the January transfer window.

“According to information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the Winter,” said Meijer before adding that Arsenal are his favoured destination.

With his contract expiring at the close of the season, the exit door at Schalke might be set slightly ajar early on, in order for the club to recoup some of the £10.5million transfer fee paid to AC Milan in August 2010.

News of his desire to leave Germany has fuelled speculation surrounding the future of Olivier Giroud, who seems now to have finally found his feet with four goals in five games for Arsenal. Whether the Gunners can find room for the two front-men is yet to be seen.
