Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is waiting to discover the extent of the hamstring injury that forced him off at half time of the Gunners’ Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, reports the Telegraph.
Ozil had a scan on Wednesday afternoon, and is set to discover the extent of the injury today.
Arsenal’s injury problems have been compounded further with the news Aaron Ramsey will not be fit to return for Sunday’s north London derby with Tottenham – a game that had been previously been mentioned as a comeback fixture.
The initial fears are that Ozil will miss Sunday’s game, as well as crucial fixtures with Chelsea, Swansea and Manchester City over the next three weeks.
But yesterday there was hope he may be fit to return for the FA Cup semi final clash with Wigan at Wembley on April 12.
There are concerns his absence may be even longer after the German attempted to play through the pain barrier on Tuesday night, a move which may have seen him make the injury worse.
Ozil was criticized for a quiet first half performance against Bayern, but was adamant he was playing through discomfort to try and help the team turn the tie around.
Arsenal already have Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Keiran Gibbs on the sidelines.
