Title favourites at the start of the campaign, Arsenal look to replicate their early form and with some extra reinforcements, they will surely target a higher finish time around. With a few pricey purchases here and there, squad depth will surely not be a factor anymore.

As the new season is about to start, it’s probably time to pick your Fantasy Premier League.

So, with that in mind here is one defensive player, one midfield player, one forward, one player who’s worth a punt, and one budget player you should consider when picking your team...

Defence:

Laurent Koscielny was a central figure in last season’s title bid for Arsenal and given his recent World Cup display, his confidence is at an all time high. Priced at 6.0, his partnership with Per Mertesacker cannot be overlooked as Arsene Wenger will try to go all the way.

He had a total tally of 155 points from his previous campaign, two behind the likes of Mertesacker (who will miss the start of the season), proving their highly effective defending.

With a few additions to the squad, Koscielny is surely aiming to lift another trophy on the back of their recent FA Cup win.

Midfield:

Alexis Sanchez could be the missing piece for Arsenal as they prepare themselves for the upcoming campaign. With squad depth being a problem the previous season, his move from Barcelona tips him to become one of the key players for Arsene Wenger.

Priced at 10.5, this could be a great pick because he might even be given the heads up to play up top, as the main striker. The fact that he is categorized as a midfielder can increase his point haul should Wenger decide to play him in a more forward position.

Forward:

Olivier Giroud is a definite pick because he is currently one of the only main strikers available to Arsene Wenger. Yaya Sanago hardly played a role last season and despite him scoring a few pre-season goals, it is unlikely he will replace the Frenchman up top.

Elsewhere, both Lukas Podolski and the returning Joel Campbell are seen as more wide attacking players, hence Giroud will be the focus of Wenger’s attack. Priced at 8.5, he will be considered a very good pick because with 187 points last season, he could gather even more with the new and improved squad.

Worth a Punt:

Joel Campbell’s return to Arsenal after a very impressive World Cup display for Costa Rica could see him earn a place in the squad. Though his future is still uncertain, it looks as though Arsene Wenger will be opting to keep him at the Emirates this time around.

Priced at 5.5, this is surely worth a risk because if he gets a chance to play, his display can see a rise in his price. If Wenger chooses to bench him, he would not deal such a huge blow in regards to the available budget as he could easily be replaced.

Budget Pick:

Calum Chambers is priced at only 4.5 and with news that Per Mertesacker has been given extended leave on the back of his World Cup victory, the 19-year-old could very well start alongside Laurent Koscielny at centre-back. When the German defender returns to action, he can also be played in a more advanced midfield role.

With only 49 points with Southampton the previous season, Chambers will only improve given Wenger’s trust in young talent. As a very versatile defender, a change in position can see him get points from not conceding any goals, providing an assist, or if lucky, even from a goal.
