With another player looking destined to snub Arsenal, Arsene Wenger must be wondering what he has to do to secure any signings in the modern game. Henrikh Mkhitaryan was superb for Borussia Dortmund last season and it looks nailed on that the Armenian will turn down Arsenal, as he looks to move elsewhere... potentially to Manchester United.

Players aren't exactly in awe of Arsenal anymore. Their continued failure to win a truly major trophy has left Arsene Wenger under pressure, rather than in a position to demand the best players come to the club. The signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez may have suggested otherwise, but it could be another tricky summer for the Gunners as every Premier League club can compete financially with the new TV deal.

Could it be another summer of frustration for the Arsenal fans? Well, if not, they should probably consider one of these five stars as an alternative to Mkhitaryan...

Douglas Costa

Less of a goal threat than Mkhitaryan, Costa would provide some natural width that Arsenal are in dire need of.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of a few players that can play out wide for Arsenal, but few crave isolating a full-back as much as Douglas Costa. Bayern Munich are hardly likely to let him go easily, but Arsenal are fully aware that they will need to splash the cash if they wish to compete for the best players.

Adam Lallana

Lallana is a vastly under-rated player for both club and country and his intelligent passing, along with his skilful dribbling would slot nicely into the Arsenal side.

Unlikely to attack spaces as much as Mkhitaryan, Lallana would offer the role of being an additional playmaker from a wide area and perhaps take some of the burden off of Mesut Ozil.

Isco

Few players will have been as frustrated as Isco over the past season or two. The former Malaga man has never really nailed down a spot at Real Madrid and is constantly in the shadow of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.

A transfer is probably the best thing for Isco's career and he would be a wonderful addition to any side.

His natural acceleration sees him breeze past players with ease, whilst his versatility would give Arsene Wenger extra tactical flexibility.

Karim Bellarabi

A different player to Mkhitaryan, Bellarabi is a pacey right winger who would focus on beating his man ahead of attacking spaces in the channels.

Like with Douglas Costa, Bellarabi is inclined to hug the touchline and would aid Arsenal as they attempt to stretch the play.

Bellarabi and Bellerin might just be the fastest right side in football, too.

Leroy Sane

Manchester City continue to posture about signing Leroy Sane, but the Schalke wonderkid is still very much on the market.

An enormous transfer fee would be required, unfortunately. His quality is there for all to see, yet the inconsistencies in his game at the moment might put off of Arsene Wenger - who is looking for a final title before retirement.
