The transfer policy of Arsenal has been a very strange one in recent years.

Following the completion of the Emirates Stadium, the club refocused their transfer policy in an effort to cut costs in order to fund the new ground; leaving Arsene Wenger with very little cash to spend.

The repayment required for the stadium ended a couple of years ago, but even now Arsenal’s transfer policy is murky at best.

One or two big names have come in, but nothing Wenger has done can really be described as breaking the bank, especially when compared with his rival clubs.

This in turn has lead Arsenal to miss out on some of Europe’s top talents, talents that would have made this Arsenal side so much better.

So here are FIVE players that Arsenal won’t sign but really should...

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba’s transfer to Manchester United looks sewn up, but things could have been very different if Wenger had got his hand out of his pocket.

Like every top club in Europe, Arsenal were interested in Pogba but the club bulked at the £100million transfer fee that was suggested, despite Wenger revealing on a number of occasions that the club have that sort of money readily available.

Pogba could have become the side’s talisman, leading Arsenal’s normally shaky midfield to stability and giving them more quality than ever before.

There is still time for Arsenal to slide in and steal Pogba from United if they put their money on the table, but knowing Arsene Wenger, they definitely wont.

Alvaro Morata

Another European supertstar that has been linked with a host of clubs this summer, including Arsenal.

Alvaro Morata excelled in Serie A last year, catching the eye of a host of European sides, with Arsenal reportedly leading the chase for the talented attacking Spaniard.

The move seems to have hit an impasse however, with Spanish giants Real Madrid refusing to let the striker leave for anything less than £40-60 million – money that Arsene Wenger simply isn’t willing to pay.

At just 23-years-old, Morata could lead the Arsenal front line for years to come; but it does not seem likely at this point.

Gonzalo Higuain

Another prolific front man that has been linked with the London side in recent years, Gonzalo Higuain is another striker that Arsenal should be looking to sign.

Like Morata, the transfer fee seems to be the main drawback, with Napoli quoting similar numbers for Higuain as Real Madrid are for Morata.

Higuain has been nothing short of prolific with Napoli, having scored over 70 goals in around 100 league appearances; proving himself as one of Europe’s most deadly front men.

With Giroud often looking tired and isolated up front for Arsenal, the Gunners are crying out for reinforcements up top. There is nobody else available of the quality of Higuain; but Arsenal seem destined to miss out on him as well.

Alexander Lacazette

Lacazette

Alexander Lacazette has emerged as a recent target for Arsenal, but like so many before him the deal looks very unlikely to actually happen.

Rumours linked Arsenal with a £30-40 million move several weeks ago, but now Lyon bosses have revealed that Arsenal are yet to place an offer for the talented striker.

Like so many players before him, Lacazette appears to just be another fleeting Arsenal target that the side are refusing to take a punt on.

Sure he is still young and unproven in the Premier League, but without taking a chance Arsenal show little signs of improving.

Rumours will no doubt persist over the future of Lacazette; but Arsenal will probably not be his future home.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Kalidou Koulibaly

Kalidou Koulibaly is a player that Arsenal have not been linked with as much as other defenders, and it is really difficult to see why that is the case.

Koulibaly is attracting attention from across Europe for his stellar performances for Napoli, and with the defender reportedly looking to leave this summer, this may be the their most available chance to capture a world class defender.

With Mertesacker looking shaky and Gabriel not proven in the Premier League, Arsenal are definitely looking for a defender - and Koulibaly fits that mould.

The lack of media attention on Koulibaly from the Arsenal camp is a telltale sign of a lack of interest, so it seems, strangely, that Arsenal are not that interested in the defender.

It is hard to see why.
