In one of the more surprising transfer stories of the summer, Arsenal are reportedly keen in landing former Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic.

The Montenegrin international is currently in Italy with Inter Milan but has had yet another underwhelming season and is rumoured to want out to avoid further stagnation in his once-promising career.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is in the market for offensive options ahead of what could be the most competitive Premier League season ever.

Reports in both England and Italy have claimed that Arsenal face a battle with Spartak Moscow for the 26-year-old’s signature.

While many Gunners fans will be questioning the reasoning behind the signing of a player who proved inadequate to one of their biggest rivals, it shouldn’t be forgotten just how admired and sought after Stevan Jovetic was as a young player.

So here we offer five reasons why Arsenal moving for Stevan Jovetic would make sense...

Premier League Experience

jovetic

While Jovetic may have only netted eight times in his short career in England, the Montenegrin was plagued by lengthy injuries, which pushed him down the pecking order at Manchester City.

However, since he departed the Etihad for the San Siro, Jovetic has only been injured for seven games in total and looks to have got his fitness back on track.

Despite his injuries in Manchester, Jovetic has experienced the Premier League, knows how to adapt to its fast pace and would not be intimidated by its unique demands.

A Proven Goal Scorer

Despite an inconstant couple of years with Manchester City, Jovetic emerged as a prolific goal scorer at Fiorentina and was the club's top marksman in 2012.

The 26-year-old is also the key man for Montenegro and he has scored three goals in five appearances for his nation in the last year alone.

Should Jovetic be given time to prove himself at Arsenal, he could prove a real goal threat and remove some of the pressure from the shoulders of Olivier Giroud.

The best is yet to come

Attacking Midfield - Stevan Jovetic

When a player has been in the European spotlight for eight years, it is easy to forget their relatively fledgling age.

At just 26, Jovetic still has his best years ahead of him; in fact, the Montenegrin is about to enter the primer of his career.

Should he get the opportunity at Arsenal, Jovetic could be a fixture in the squad at the Emirates for a long time.

Another Option

While Jovetic may not be the star striker that Arsenal fans have been craving for so long, the arrival of the former Fiorentina man would finally lift some of the pressure off Olivier Giroud, who has had to spearhead the Gunner attacking threat on his own for far too long.

With Danny Welbeck out of action until 2017, Arsenal need strikers and Jovetic, who could be available for as little as £11million, would be an astute option.

Style of Play

Giroud

Stevan Jovetic is fast, resilient and, most importantly, versatile.

The Montenegrin has been employed all the way across the front-line during his career and can even slot into attacking midfield.

This versatility would provide able cover for many of Arsenal’s star names including Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud, while his pace would work perfectly with the style of play so often seen at the Emirates.
