It's that time of the season again, and just like clockwork, Arsenal fans are getting worried about their lack of summer transfer activity.

Arsene Wenger, love him or hate him, has a bit of a habit of leaving things until the last minute and Gunners fans are a little concerned about the lack of incomings at the Emirates. Granit Xhaka is the only big name player to have signed this summer, but his role is a leggy, dogged one.

Arsenal supporters want a bit of thrift, a bit of excitement. And champion them all you want Arsene, but players like Rob Holding and Takuma Asano aren't going to do it for supporters who spent into the thousands following the team all season.

So who should the Gunners be targeting instead? Who are the big-name players that Arsenal fans will want to see play in front of them week-in, week-out next season?

Here's FIVE superstars that could give Arsenal fans renewed hope ahead of their season opener....

Marquinhos

One position that never seems to be properly strengthened is central defence. They've tried Gabriel- and he's a liability and we all know how uncertain the Per/Laurent partnership can be.

But Arsenal could do worse than bringing in Marquinos, considered one of the most talented defenders in French football, albeit one that struggles to get a game.

He's stuck behind fellow countrymen David Luiz and Thiago Silva in the pecking order and the former Roma man could look elsewhere for minutes in the very near future. Have a think Arsene.

Gonzalo Higuain

I could give you all the stats in the world about Gonzalo Higuain, but it's his goalscoring record that tells the real story about this strikers' true ability.

He dispatched a staggering 38 goals last season for Napoli and has been linked with a transfer to Juventus all summer.

I, as well as most Arsenal fans must wish that Wenger would just pull out all the stops to bring in a player of his quality. The market for the top players is expensive and Arsenal will need to splash the cash to compete.

Pierre Emerick-Aubamayang

Another of the worlds top strikers, this man certainly needs very little introduction.

Aubamayang has been one of the Bundesliga's most prolific scorers since joining the league in 2013. He scored a staggering 39 goals last season and you've got to wonder just how good he would be with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil playing around him.

It would take mega-bucks, but you've got to be in it to win it.

Jorginho

A deep-lying playmaker, Napoli midfielder Jorginho is the sort of player that could get Arsenal's creative juices flowing from just in front of the back-four.

Capped at international level, Jorginho is what Arsenal are screaming out for- a player with flair. Has so much more potential than the likes of Mohamed Elneny.

Jose Gimenez

Arguably one of La Liga's best young centre-backs, Gimenez has been tipped for great things by those who have followed his progress at Atletico.

At 21 he has his whole career ahead of him, but turns out performances well beyond his years. He's also been capped over 20 times for Uruguay at international level, proving that despite his age, he has the maturity to play at the top.

He'd offer the Gunners another option at centre-back, and no doubt would start ahead of both Mertesacker and Gabriel, both of whom are prone to carelessness.
