Now while injuries clearly aren’t a phenomenon exclusive to Arsenal, they seem to take their toll much more significantly on the Gunners than on other teams. Large periods of the season have season Arsenal coping without their main stars, all of whom play in similar positions. There is a genuine sense that the squad is a bit lightweight. But when you lose four or five players of the same position, this decimates what depth there is. Coping without the quality players such as Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott at once would be a challenge to any side. Arsene Wenger has already acknowledged a need to assess both training and recovery methods within the club, and if they find ways to keep injuries to a minimum, they may just be able to mount a longer lasting title challenge.
