With third place effectively sealed, Arsenal can look forward to a summer in which Champions League group stage football is a guarantee.

No late trips to Turkey to face tough opposition means that signings can be sold the promise of guaranteed top level action, which may help Arsene Wenger to build a side capable of mounting a serious Premier League title charge.

So, how could the Frenchman’s XI look if he pushes the boat out?

GK - Petr Cech

The potential solution to a long-term problem? Cech looks to be the main target for Arsenal this summer, with the Czech stopper agitating to a move away from Chelsea.

Reports indicate that discussions are already underway, and it’s fair to say the experienced 32-year-old would be an upgrade on Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina.

RB – Hector Bellerin

With monstrous pace and sound ability when getting forward, Bellerin offers the Gunners a different option.

Fans had been calling for his introduction to the first-team for a while prior to this season, and they got their wish when Wenger threw him in amid a right-back injury crisis. Since then the Spaniard has looked composed and could be a better long-term option than Calum Chambers.

CB – Mats Hummels

The dream centre-back. Hummels is strong, commanding and excellent on the ball. Prising him from Dortmund will be tough, but Arsenal are thought to be interested in the World Cup winner, who may be the man to finally quell talk of the North London club having a soft centre.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

Upon his arrival Koscielny looked as though the Premier League may be a bridge too far.

However, since those days he’s grown as a player, and the fact Wenger missed him so dearly during his injury lay-off earlier this season is testament to his growing importance at the Emirates Stadium.

LB – Kieran Gibbs

Left-back is far from being Arsenal’s strongest area, and with links with fresh players minimal, Gibbs is the best option.

More impressive physically than Nacho Monreal, the England international is the best of an underwhelming bunch.

CM – Arturo Vidal

With reports having claimed that a deal is all but done for Vidal, Arsenal fans can start to dream of the Chilean midfield monster running their side.

A brutal tackler with the physical power to get up and down the pitch, the 27-year-old could add the steel the Gunners have been missing for some time.

CM – Aaron Ramsey

Ramsey on the left wing just doesn’t work. The Welshman is technically good enough to play the role, but having him away from the action negates his impact and takes a layer away from the Gunners’ midfield armoury.

A much better option than Jack Wilshere and infinitely more useful going forward than Francis Coquelin, a partnership with Vidal could be a dream one.

CM – Isco

Okay, Arsenal have plenty of attacking midfielders… but there’s always room for a player of Isco’s quality.

A £30m+ move has been mooted following talk of a breakdown in his relationship with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, so there is actually a chance Wenger could land the impressive Spaniard.

Able to score goals, operate from a slightly deeper role and beat even the best of defenders, he could be the marquee arrival.

LM – Alexis Sanchez

Last summer’s big buy has been an outstanding Emirates Stadium success.

The Chilean has settled extremely well in English football, with his tireless work ethic and infectious running really missed on the rare occasions he’s not in the XI. A certain pick for almost any side across Europe!

RM – Pedro

With Mesut Ozil a bit hot and cold, a new attacker may be needed, and Pedro looks to fit the bill. Reports claim a cut-price offer may be enough for the winger, who has struggled for game time at Barcelona this season.

However, that’s no reflection on his ability, as very few players on the planet would get into any team ahead of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

ST – Karim Benzema

Although Olivier Giroud has impressed, a world-class centre-forward could take Arsenal to the next level.

It’s been suggested that Benzema is a ‘top target’ heading into the coming transfer window, and the France international would certainly add another dimension to Wenger’s side.

A one in two forward for a team of Real Madrid’s calibre alongside the ‘main man’ Cristiano Ronaldo, the ex-Lyon ace is truly top quality.
