Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Liverpool’s lack of domestic and European cup action between now and the end of the season will give them an “advantage” in the title race.

The Reds have defied the odds this season to maintain an outside challenge for English football’s top prize, and currently find themselves just four points off the summit with 11 games to go.

It is thought that the eventual winner of the title will come from one of the top four teams – Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea – but unlike their rivals, the Merseysiders can focus purely on the league without cup distractions.

Jose Mourinho has previously indicated that he sees this as a positive for Brendan Rodgers’ side, and now Wenger has reiterated the Portuguese coach’s thoughts:

“Liverpool is in the race and they have an advantage because it’s the only competition they play,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.

The Frenchman went on to say that he feels that this year’s title battle will be a close one, and that the team who can dig out some late season form will come out on top:

“Overall, it will be very tight, I hope until the end because that means it will be close until the end and if you are consistent, you will have a good chance to win it.”
