Former Holland striker Erik Meijer believes that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will leave Schalke in January, with Arsenal favourites to land him according to The Metro.

Meijer, whose agent also represents Huntelaar is quoted as saying, "According to the information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the winter,"

"Arsenal FC are the favourites to land him."

The 29 year old is one of the most consistent goalscorers in Europe, scoring 40 goals in 67 matches with Schalke. However, talks over a new contract in Gelsenkirchen have stalled with the former Real Madrid man stating that he will make a decision on his future in January. It is thought by Meijer, that Huntelaar, who has never played in the Premier League, would be keen on a move to the Emirates, with Arsene Wenger only needing around £10 million to prize the hitman away from Germany.

Huntelaar thrust himself onto the European stage after an incredible vain of goalscoring for Ajax between 2006-2009. His performances earned him a move to giants Real Madrid and then AC Milan before moving to current club Schalke in 2010.  Arsene Wenger has admitted his admiration for the Dutchman before but it is thought that January will be the first time that an official approach will be made.
