Peter Reid suggested to Talksport that Arsenal are not capable of challenging for the Premier League this season.

Arsene Wenger had defended his side following their 3-3 draw against Fulham on the weekend.

The boss was aware that his resurgent side need to start securing 3 points from home fixtures but he praised his side’s spirit following a late rally which salvaged the draw.

Had it not been for Arteta failing to net a last gasp penalty the Gunners could have gone on to win the match at The Emirates.

However, the boss knew that his players were slightly jaded following a midweek Champions League trip to Schalke.

The Arsenal boss said in his post match press conference: “We showed magnificent spirit in the second half of the game. I can only congratulate the team for their attitude today.”

However, Reid when questioned on the issue on the Talksport morning show about the Gunners title bid stated “No, they are not capable of challenging; they don’t have the squad to build a consistent run”.

Arsenal already are 11 points adrift of the current Premier League leaders Manchester United, and the 2-1 loss to United last weekend, was also of particular concern.

Amongst the frustration, French International forward Giroud has been one ray of light at the Emirates. and he took his tally to six for the season against Fulham and his boss also was quick to praise the star.

He added: “Giroud was dangerous all along and he was the positive of the day," added Wenger. "He answered some questions that were raised."

Arsenal will be looking to revitalise their campaign next weekend in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
