Javi Martinez is being strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, a story which stems from reports in Germany that the Spaniard is unhappy with life at Bayern Munich.
Martinez, though more than able at centre-back, has a preference to play in midfield, but Pep Guardiola was quick to break up the hugely successful partnership Martinez held with Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Bayern, however, are unlikely to sell Martinez this summer, only two years on from his €40million switch. Guardiola, being a long-time fan of Martinez, is also unlikely to want to part ways with him. Guardiola’s system requires a ball-playing centre-back, and Martinez fits that description.
If Arsenal are unable to lure Martinez away, having already seen Lars Bender talk up his future at Bayer Leverkusen, these are six alternatives Arsenal should consider.
