There’s little argument that Arsenal’s most pressing need going into this summer’s window is an upgrade at centre-forward. Due to the lack of options and variation in attack, Arsenal’s title charge crumbled, with emphasis being on the missed opportunity to strengthen in January.
But equally important is the midfield, where Arsenal have been overrun on countless occasions this season. Arsenal, at full strength, have few problems in dispatching the lesser teams in the Premier League. The industry of Aaron Ramsey in particular helped to mask to deficiencies of others in midfield. There can be little support for either Mikel Arteta or Mathieu Flamini starting alongside Ramsey in midfield next season.
Which means Wenger will need to put into good use the funds available to him this summer. Germany has been a good hunting ground for Wenger in the recent past, with France offering a few standout performers among the many duds.
Whatever the market may be, the Arsenal manager will need to ensure he lands a player who can help to take Arsenal onto the next level and help maintain a strong push for the title next season. It will be difficult to see fans accepting another lacklustre performance in the market this summer.
