SIX stars to follow Aurier to Arsenal

Serge Aurier isn’t short of supporters who’d like to see him line up for Arsenal next season. The Ivory Coast international has been linked with a move to the Emirates for at least 12 months, with Bacary Sagna now departed.

Aurier has had a good World Cup so far, catching the eye with his decisive performance against Japan early on. His attacking qualities, coupled with the stats to back him up, make him the ideal target to replace Sagna on the right side of Arsenal’s defence. The reported £7million fee should make it near impossible for Arsene Wenger to pass up this deal.

If Aurier is to arrive at Arsenal, he’ll need to be accompanied by a host of new players who can turn the team into undeniable title contenders.

So, with that in mind, here are six players who could follow him to the Emirates this summer.

Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli

More and more fans seem to be warming to the idea of Mario Balotelli arriving at Arsenal this summer. Away from the controversy, this is a world-class striker when he’s on his game.

The Italian is said to favour a move back to England this summer, with AC Milan needing to raise funds. Balotelli is still young at 23 and already has experience of winning major silverware. There’s no reason why Wenger can’t tame the bad-boy attitude of the Italian and mould him into a consistent and reliable asset for the club. A fee around £25 million would be a good deal for the club.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has been one of the stars of the World Cup, helping Chile to advance out of group B behind the Netherlands. After a fantastic season with Barcelona, Alexis is said to be looking to move on, with Arsenal reportedly at the head of the queue to acquire his services.

He’s exactly what Arsenal need to turn the team into genuine title contenders, able to play as a centre-forward or on either wing. Alexis has all the qualities to be considered another superstar signing at Arsenal despite his struggles at the Camp Nou. This would be an incredible piece of business for the club if they can get it done.

Branislav Ivanovic

Branislav Ivanovic

Branislav Ivanovic to Arsenal is one of this summer’s surprise rumours. The Chelsea defender has been one of the league’s most consistent performers in recent seasons, able to play at either right-back or centre-back. And that’s likely what’s caught Arsene Wenger’s eye. Following the departure of Bacary Sagna, who was equally versatile, the club are on the lookout for someone who fill in at various positions and provide experience.

It’s hugely unlikely Chelsea would sell to Arsenal, while Ivanovic would surely need to be retained due to the sale of David Luiz. But as the summer progresses, it may be possible.

Guillermo Ochoa

Guillermo Ochoa

Guillermo Ochoa had a sensational game for Mexico against Brazil, and it was always natural that he’d be linked with a move to Arsenal. The Mexican is out of contract this summer after spending the last three seasons with Ajaccio in France. He’s shown to have good reflexes and was picked as Mexico’s first-choice at the World Cup due to his superior shot-stopping ability.

He’d be available on a free and clearly has the talent to play at the highest level. As a backup to Wojciech Szczesny, there shouldn’t be much doubt.

Sami Khedira

Sami Khedira

There are few midfielders on the market who would be a better fit at Arsenal than Sami Khedira. The club are in desperate need of a holding midfielder, and while the German isn’t strictly a defensive player, his qualities in his own third can be paired with someone like Aaron Ramsey, who has developed well on the defensive side of his game.

Khedira may be looking to leave Real Madrid this summer, with his contract up next summer. His all-action style would be welcomed at Arsenal. Khedira can be an asset in his own half but regularly gets forward and becomes a threat. At £16 million, he should be considered a bargain.

Alexandre Lacazette

Alexandre Lacazette

Alexandre Lacazette is said to be interesting Newcastle this summer, but following the season he’s had with Lyon, scoring 15 league goals, he should be attracting attention from bigger clubs in England. The Frenchman looks a typical Arsene Wenger signing, versatile, quick and with time to still develop further.

He can play either through the middle or on the wing, and there are a lot of similarities to him and Thierry Henry’s style. As one of two forward additions this summer, Lacazette would help to strengthen the attack at Arsenal significantly.
