It’s hard not to look at this past January as a missed opportunity for Arsenal. Both of the other genuine title challengers are in much stronger positions in terms of squad depth, while over the past month the Gunners have lost two vital players in Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott to long-term injury. Arsenal’s is a squad crying out for someone to come in and lend a hand until the end of the season.
But Wenger remains confident, at least publicly, that his team will finish first. It’s an incredibly big ask considering the fixtures over the next two months.
With Arsenal only really coming to life in the final days of the window, it’s certainly a failure on the club’s part not to make concrete enquiries throughout the month. It’s hard to believe that there wasn’t a player in the whole of Europe who couldn’t have improved the current Arsenal team.
