Centre-back Diego Godin played a major role in Atletico Madrid’s run to win the Spanish La Liga and reach the Champions League final where they lost out to city rivals Real Madrid. His defensive showing led to his team being given the title of having the league’s best defence. His aerial ability is also another aspect which makes him a danger during the set pieces as shown with his goal in the final against Real.
Arsenal only have two permanent centre-backs in Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny with Thomas Vermaelen missing out on large parts of the season through injury . The addition of Godin will surely be well received as all their current defenders will need to be at the top of their game. Godin made 51 appearances, scoring eight goals in the process. Arsene Wenger will be expecting to spend upwards of £18 million in order for the Spanish side to consider any negotiations.
