Arsene Wenger completely botched the January transfer window, there’s nothing else for it. When Arsenal were well in contention the their first league title since 2004, pressure was on the manager to deliver, either in the form of a natural centre-forward to relieve pressure off Olivier Giroud, or bring in Julian Draxler, who may have had offered a morale boost equal to that of Mesut Ozil’s signing.
Instead, Wenger went all in on Kim Kallstrom, an injured veteran midfielder who has done nothing above a small cameo against Swansea. Unbelievably, Wenger said he wouldn’t have signed the Swede had he had more time to work with.
The failure to move in the January market arguably marked the first swing at the team’s fragile mindset, knowing from then on they’d be doing it alone.
