Reported Arsenal target Karim Benzema is the biggest name linked with providing the Gunners ammunition in their assault on the Premier League title.

He’s the sort of player to get mouths watering at the Emirates, though another man linked with a move to the club could help them bridge the gap.

Barcelona stalwart Sergio Busquets has been rumoured to be on the move to England, and what a signing he would be. Bring the Bus and you’ll be riding one through the streets of North London come May – with the Premier League trophy in hand.

The Barca bruiser is perhaps the least stylish of all the La Masia graduates, operating further back in a holding midfield role. Though Francis Coquelin adds a bark and bite to an otherwise soft engine room, any move for the Spanish international would propel the side to Champions League contenders.

Arsene Wenger’s philosophy has prevented him purchasing an out and out midfield destroyer, but the World Cup winner perfectly slots in to the ides of Arsene. Perhaps the best in the world at what he does, the two time Champions League winner is the ideal player for the Gunners this year.

Nemanja Matic wins the title of best defensive midfielder in the league at a canter, but if the ‘Bus’ arrives, Arsenal have the most stylish midfield in Europe. Not your typical one dimensional destroyer, landing the lynchpin would provide a stylish steel.

Should Wenger be prepared to splash out a club record fee on any player this year, it should be Busquets. When operating in the pivotal anchor role, his outstanding positional sense allows him to effortlessly break up opposition plays, with 1.5 interceptions per 90 minutes last season. Last year’s loss to Monaco in the Champions League should be Wenger’s inspiration.

As you might expect from a graduate of such a prestigious academy, he is an excellent passer of the ball. Santi Cazorla excels as a deep-lying playmaker, next to the industrial Coquelin, but the Euro 2012 winner manages to combine both roles expertly. And then some.

A 91.7% pass completion rate last season would see him slot seamlessly into the Arsenal midfield. His national team manager Vincente Del Bosque praised the player ‘you see Busquests, you see the whole game.’ Sounds very Arsenal like.

A move for Real Madrid star Benzema would improve the front-line majorly. That much is clear, but how much is it needed? Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck are proven Premier League players, and we seem to be forgetting little old Alexis Sanchez will soon recover from his Copa America exploits.

It is not to say that a move for the ‘Galactico’ would not improve Wenger’s striking options. Of course it would. But for a reported £45m, the money would be better spent trying to lure the Catalan away from the Nou Camp.

If Arsenal are going to continue their momentum, and seriously challenge for top honours at both home and abroad this year, Busquets is the ideal player from which to launch their assault.
