Arsenal’s start to the new Premier League season, which has only heralded two goals in three games, was not what an expectant Emirates Stadium faithful would have hoped for this term.

The North London outfit have ambitions of competing for the title in 2015-16, with the team’s attacking prowess a key asset to the side’s play.

However, the jury still remains out on centre forward Olivier Giroud, who has blown hot and cold over the years at Arsenal.

A section of the Gunners fans have consistently stated that the former Montpellier man is not good enough to fire the club to the title, especially when rivals have the likes of Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero leading their lines.

A move for Karim Benzema was being mooted earlier in the summer, but the possibility has been dispelled by Real Madrid.

With this in mind, here are three potential new strikers that could play a major part in Arsenal putting forward a valid title challenge.

Alexandre Lacazette

The France international forward has been in scintillating form over the last 12 months and is rightly adjudged as one of the most promising young attackers in the European game.

A goal-laden 2014-15 campaign fired Lyon into second place in Ligue 1, with the Stade de Gerland youth academy graduate adding a final product to his undoubted excellent technique.

Despite repeated rumours linking Lacazette with a move this summer, the player has stated that he is happy where he is, while Lyon have said that they do not want to sell their prize asset.

However, should Arsenal come in with a significant offer, it could well turn the striker’s head towards North London.

Gonzalo Higuain

A striker that has been linked with the Emirates Stadium outfit for long periods, the time could well be right for the Argentine to be signed up.

The former Real Madrid man has shown over the years that he can score consistently and has a strong strike ratio in both Italy and Spain.

With Napoli missing out on Champions League qualification this season, Higuain could well be tempted to move to Arsenal and play in the continent’s top tournament.

Edinson Cavani

Another striker that has been rumoured as an Arsenal target for a significant amount of time, there is no doubting that the Uruguayan is not the main man at Paris Saint-Germain.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic the centre forward of choice at the Parc des Princes, Cavani has been forced to play in a wide role and has vented his distaste at the situation in the French capital.

The potential to be Arsenal’s main number nine in a team chasing titles would be an enticing proposal, while PSG could be tempted to sell him after landing Angel Di Maria this summer to play in his place.
