Arsene Wenger has backed Mesut Ozil to be one of the stars of the Premier League next season, reports the Daily Star.
The German international made a bright start to his Arsenal career, but his form and fitness has tailed off in the last couple of months.
The 25-year-old is in contention to face Hull City at the weekend having recovered from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for more than a month.
And Wenger has tipped the clubs record signing to play a big part in the club’s finish to the season, as they eye a top four place and FA Cup glory.
“He is a fantastic football player, and I would put him on the list to be player of the season next season,” Wenger said.
“The first season is the season in which you adapt and then you know what will happen and you go into it.
“And I believe that he will know better his team-mates, he will know the league better and the potential is absolutely fantastic.
“Hopefully we see improvement in his goals, assists and his presence in the game.
“He has prepared well and it depends how quickly he will come back into the pace of the game.”
Arsenal have won just twice in the German’s absence since his injury, and Wenger believes he has been a big miss.
“I can understand the judgement at the time when you wanted more of him, but I think you are right that you see his quality when he is not there,” he added.
