Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hopeful of signing Barcelona ace David Villa in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.

Wenger is desperate to add a striker to his Gunners squad with summer arrivals Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolksi failing to find their goalscoring form of previous seasons.

Theo Walcott has been playing as a lone striker in recent weeks and has done well, but his on-going contract discussion must be an issue for Wenger.

Villa may be available for as little as £15million as he has struggled to push his way back into Barcelona’s talented squad after a serious injury last season.

The likes of Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou have been allowed to leave North London on loan this week and the likes of Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci are set to follow to allow room in Wenger’s big squad.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool are all also said to be interested in the Spanish striker, but only on a loan basis.
