The Gunners beat their local rivals thanks to an early Tomas Rosicky wonder-strike to move to within four points of leaders Chelsea.
The pressure was on Arsenal before kick-off, with Liverpool having beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford to keep pace with the table-toppers after their shock loss at Aston Villa.
Wenger’s side’s trip to Spurs was the latest in a tough run of games which has seen the Emirates Stadium outfit take on Bayern Munich twice and book a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals with a win over Everton.
Arsenal were far from their fluid best at White Hart Lane, but the Frenchman was happy with the determination and grit shown by his side when the pressure was on:
“To go to Bayern, to come here, to beat Everton in the cup, it demands a lot of focus and a special spirit and that is what we have shown again today.” He told Sky Sports.
“It makes the next game very interesting. The win for Liverpool at Man Utd, and the fact that Man City won yesterday, it makes it very interesting.
“From time to time, it’s important to know you cannot always be super-dominant in a season. And to win games when you’re not is important.”
