In the ever-changing game that is football, sometimes it is every fan’s wish to turn back the clock and change decisions made by the managers, club or players.
Luckily, the guys at Sports Interactive’s Football Manager 2014 have got the answers to some of the biggest ‘what if’ scenarios in the last 10 years of football.
For the launch of the tenth edition of the game, FM14 have crunched the stats and data and have now simulated some very interesting scenarios.
Arsenal fans will forever be wondering what if they hadn’t sold their best players? If the likes of van Persie, Fabregas, Adebayor, Nasri and Clichy had all stayed?
Well wonder no more as Football Manager have spoken, and the answer is that even with these players in the squad Arsenal still would have failed to win any major trophies. So, despite coming under-fire for his transfer decisions, Wenger was right.
Their best season would have been 2012/2013, finishing in third position with the tightest defence in the Premier League and the second highest goal tally, yet they are beaten by Liverpool in the final of the FA Cup. If they had kept Van Persie – he would have been their top scorer, scoring 32 goals over the course of three seasons.
