Last Friday it was confirmed that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere would miss the first four weeks of the season after sustaining a hairline fracture to his ankle, having played just 219 competitive minutes for his club this year.

And Gunners boss Arsene Wenger says that Wilshere's style of play and his tendency to release the ball late to play quick one twos and draw challenges means he could continue to suffer as the 23-year-old is seemingly unable to change his ways.

The French manager said: "Jack's game is to provoke with the ball at his feet and go. You take that away, you change the player and you take one of his biggest strengths out."

He also said that "when he was younger he was too brave." However, with Wilshere unlikely to change his ways is there actually any chance that the Gunners fans get to see the best of Jack Wilshere?

As there is no doubting Wilshere's huge potential, he broke into the Arsenal team and became the youngest ever league debutant at the age of just 16 years and 256 back in 2008.

And he has delivered some good accolades in his time for the Gunners, including the PFA Young Player of the Year award and nomination to the 2010/11 PFA Team of the Year.

However, the general feeling is that Wilshere has not delivered the ability he has promised for so long, and the undoubted quality that he has - and what is quite telling - is that since making his England debut in 2010, he has made just 28 appearances for the national team.

This is way, way short of the amount of matches he could have been involved in, and even Wilshere would admit himself that he would have expected to have played closer to forty games for England by now.

And every time he looks as if he will go and get a run of games for the Gunners, the injury curse strikes again. It's a spell on the sideline rather than the team for Wilshere, but surely the time will come that the England man starts to get fit and start delivering more consistently.

This season he would have been hoping to keep injury free, but that hasn't exactly quite worked out so far. However, with such a long way to go in the campaign, there is time for the Gunners midfielder to get the run of games he needs to impose himself on Wenger's midfield, and show why he should be starting regularly at the Emirates.

He has too much quality to not be playing regularly for the Gunners. He has fantastic feet, great vision, a superb left foot, a lovely turn of speed and the dribbling ability that allows him to ghost past players with ease and create chances by running through the lines.

He is a hugely talented midfielder but he really needs to avoid these kinds of injuries. If he can do that then he will start showcasing the talent he has on a far regular basis.
