So, Arsène Wenger has sparked speculation that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry could make his second loan return to his former club.

The Gunners boss has revealed that he would not rule out bringing the club’s record goal scorer back to The Emirates after he trained three times with the Gunners in the last few days.

Thierry Henry could be a potential stand-in for Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho who could go to the Africa Cup of Nations next year.

However, will the Arsenal faithful really be keen to have back the man who departed from the club in 2007 for Barcelona, despite having previously said he would never leave?

Well, actually, I would say many would be delighted to welcome him back, and that the majority of supporters still see him as a club hero. However, it is true to say that many do have reservations about these latest rumours.

Looking across Twitter and Arsenal fan forums, views on any potential loan move are mixed. Many are greatly excited. Numerous people are ready to welcome him back like a cult hero, believing he will be beneficial to the team. And of course, you could also say that anything would be better than playing Marouane Chamakh.

However, many are reluctant about the move, and think that Wenger may bring Thierry Henry in on loan instead of making new signings which numerous fans desperately want. Some even think it is embarrassing; with a few thinking Arsenal should stop looking towards the past.

Bringing Henry back for another loan spell could really galvanise the club. While Henry, who currently plays for the New York Red Bulls, may not physically be as good as he was during his heyday, but the presence of a club legend has previously provided a great boost psychologically to the team. As Arsène Wenger was quoted to have said on Arsenal’s official website: “You know what he gives you. He gives you hope, especially when he comes on. That is the most important thing. He is a communicator. An extrovert. Very intelligent. He can only give good advice to players because he was in their position when he arrived here.”

Additionally, he made a good contribution in his last loan spell at Arsenal, scoring two times over the seven matches he appeared in. And surely not many could forget his winning goal in the FA Cup game against Leeds in his first game since his loan move.

However, while I believe many Arsenal fans would welcome him back, it is important that any move to sign him on loan should not be in place of actually buying new strikers. Many Arsenal fans would agree that adding new striking power is greatly needed to try and restore Arsenal to its former glory.

So, inevitably, some have asked the question whether Arsenal might just use a loan move for Thierry Henry to not have to actually try and make signings in the transfer window. The lack of particularly meaningful signings in the last January transfer window could be evidence of this.

And many could ask whether it would really be good for the club to turn again to a face of the past, rather than relying on the present generation.

Former Arsenal player Alan Smith has put across his view to talkSPORT that it would be a mistake to sign Thierry Henry on another loan move. Some have also voiced calls for Thierry Henry to either be brought in for longer, or to have a more technical role at the club, for example coaching instead.

However, is it really so bad to temporarily turn to Thierry Henry if it could help us win matches when we could have a lack of player resources? Is it a move that would be wise to make if it could help Arsenal in their trophy campaigns? Many fans would love to see Thierry Henry on the pitch for Arsenal again.

Though Thierry Henry did leave Arsenal in 2007, Thierry Henry is a club hero who has helped bring Arsenal much success. I believe it would be truly fantastic to see Thierry Henry playing for Arsenal again, even if it is during just a loan spell. However, even if he is brought in to help the team, it is hugely important that Arsenal strengthen the club.
