The 29-year-old centre-back has emerged as a shock target for the Red Devils on the back of his fine displays at the World Cup – working under LVG – and has been dubbed by some as a natural successor to the departed Nemanja Vidic.
Vlaar is currently in the last 12 months of his contract and is likely to jump at the chance to become the leader of United’s new back three set-up, however he is thought to be a back-up option with the likes of Mats Hummels and Thomas Vermaelen being mentioned.
Many have questioned whether or not the Villa man is good enough to be a target for the Red Devils, but Taylor feels that he would be a success at Old Trafford:
“He’s definitely, on the world stage, shown he’s good enough.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“He was in a good Dutch team and going to a good United team, I’m sure he’d settle in.
“As a Villa fan I don’t want him to do that.
“I’d love him to sign a new deal but from a player’s point of view, he’s in a great position.
“Do we cash in on him or do we try and persuade him to stay?
“You never know – he’s settled, his family are settled, he might want to stay.”
