Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has heaped praise on team-mate Christian Benteke, describing him as a “top quality” player.
The Belgian front-man joined the Midlanders last summer, and has made a flying start to Premier League life.
Since his £7m arrival from Genk, the 22-year-old has hit 15 goals, becoming one of the most sought after young players in English football.
Agbonalhor is delighted with how his partner has adapted to his new surroundings, and expects him to improve further:
“He’s come into the league and no-one knew much about him. He’s just adapted,” he told the club’s official website.
“Every aspect of his game is top quality. He works hard in training and look at the way he plays the game – his composure is excellent, he has presence as a big guy and he has quite a bit of pace.
“He’s having a great first season in the Premier League and he’s only going to get better for us with each successive season he’s here.”
Benteke’s blistering start to the season has led to speculation that a number of top clubs are looking to swoop for his signature.
Tottenham are one side to have been linked with a summer move, and Agbonlahor is far from surprised by the amount of interest being shown in the Belgian:
“A lot of teams in the Premier League would love to have him in their side.”
Agbonlahor, who has been capped by England on three occasions, also doesn’t mind that Benteke has moved ahead of him in terms of appreciation from the Villa supporters:
“The fans love him too. He’s the first name that they sing. They have really taken to him.
“I might get second or third on the playlist – but I’ll take that.”
