Aston Villa have sealed a loan move for Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley more than 16 hours after the transfer deadline closed, according to The Metro.

The England international was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by Louis van Gaal recently, which prompted negotiations between the Midlanders and the Red Devils.

But the deal looked to be off yesterday when Everton waded in, yet their £5.5m offer was knocked back

And now the Premier League gave approved a late loan deal for Cleverley to join Villa – whom he could sign for on a permanent deal for around £7.5m – despite the offer having been submitted at 1:15am this morning.

The midfielder has endured a difficult spell at United in recent seasons, with sections of the club’s supporters having identified him as one of a selection of underperforming players.

In this time he’s also moved away from the England team, which he was a part of on a regular basis before the World Cup.

The deal is somewhat of a coup for Villa, who have endured a frustrating summer on the transfer front.
