The 20-year-old is currently at Italian outfit Genoa, where he is on a season long loan from Russian club FC Krasnodar, whom he joined from Maccabi Tel Aviv back in 2012.
Genoa have the option to make the deal permanent in the summer, but that seems unlikely considering Konate has managed just one goal in 16 Serie A appearances this season.
But that has not stopped Villa boss Paul Lambert registering an interest in the powerful striker, who has had him scouted several times in the last three months.
Villa still have concerns over the future of Christian Benteke, who has struggled to replicate the form he showed last season, and has previously been linked with big money moves to Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal.
The club signed Grant Holt on loan in the January transfer window, although the 32-year-old is yet to score a goal for his new club.
Newcastle and West Ham have previously shown an interest in Konate, who is valued at around £1.3million.
