Aston Villa’s player of the season Brad Guzan is set to sign a new big money contract at the club after an inspiring season at Villa Park.

Guzan was released by Villa this time last year but new manager Paul Lambert invited the American back in to training and after an impressive pre-season, he signed a one year deal at the club.

The 28 year old was voted by both the supporters and his fellow players as the Villa player of the year and could double his wages with his new deal that he is set to sign next week.

Lambert has hailed Guzan’s consistency this season and admits that even big summer signing Christian Benteke didn’t get close to the goalkeeper for his player of the year.

“Goalscorers get all the headlines but I could also say that without Brad we would have lost more games,” Lambert told the Daily Star.

“Goalscorers are obviously important but so is a goalkeeper.

“He’s been incredible this season.

“I class people as equal. There are a few of them we will have to have a look at in the summer.”
