Aston Villa scouts are reported to have been watching Porto centre back Abdoulaye Ba against Dynamo Kiev last night, according to the Daily Mail.

The Champions League encounter ended 0-0 with the Porto defence providing a solid display and Ba will have certainly highlighted his ability with the performance.

It is reckoned that the 21-year-old Senegalese international is available on loan in January.

Paul Lambert is thought to be leading the chase with central defensive cover a priority for the Villans in the next transfer window.

He is thought to have received admiring glances from other Premier League clubs too, with Sam Allardyce also showing an interest in trying to bring the defender to Upton Park.

Ba had a loan spell Academica last season which helped him develop his game and it is believed that club officials would favour another loan move for the starlet.

The possibility of structuring a deal which is at first on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer is not an avenue that has been ruled out - something that will certainly appeal to Villa.

Lambert has recently expressed that he felt Aston Villa had left themselves short of cover after the last transfer window and did not want a repeat of this situation come the end of January.

In the meantime Lambert will be hoping to build on the club’s first away win since January when they welcome Manchester United to Villa Park this weekend. It won’t get any easier for them the following game too, when they make a trip to the champions Manchester City.
