Aston Villa are thought to be keen on signing 21-year-old Maribor striker Robert Beric, according to Talksport.

Beric has caught the eye of a number of Premier League sides, as well as Italian outfit Napoli, after a number of eye-catching displays in Maribor’s Europa League campaign.

Most notably, he managed to be a pivotal figure getting on the scoresheet as his team secured a shock 1-1 home draw against Tottenham in the last round of fixtures.

The Slovenian forward will hope to impress again when he faces the same opposition at White Hart lane on Thursday night.

It will be another shop window for the forward to display he has the qualities to cut it at the very top amongst stars hailing from England's top flight.

Despite being seen as a bright prospect, it is thought Maribor would let the player depart in January for as little as £2.5 million.

This appears to be particularly alluring for owner Randy Lerner who has recently tried to trim the club’s wage bill and run a tight financial ship.

However, there is an awareness that Villa will need to be in the market for a striker with the future of one of their previous lavish £24 million signings Darren Bent, currently uncertain.

Paul Lambert is thought to be sending scouts to the game on Thursday and if he impresses, it is reckoned he will make a concerted effort to secure the young starlet’s signature in January.

The player is also thought to favour a move, with Aston Villa renowned in Europe for giving first team opportunities to young talent.
