I had the pleasure of speaking with Aston Villa striker and England international Darren Bent at the launch of Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor Warfighter and took the opportunity to ask him some questions. These questions were some of my own but also selected from posts from fans on FootballFanCast’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Of the new players at Aston Villa, who has impressed you the most?

I have been impressed with all of the new signings here - they are all up to the challenge in the Premier League. I’m particularly impressed with Christian Benteke.

What do you think of Paul Lambert?

He’s his own person and has stamped his authority in the Villa camp. He’s certainly the boss around here!

Are there any youngsters at Aston Villa you think people should keep an eye on?

I would certainly recommend watching Graham Burke and Daniel Johnson, they both look like big players for Villa in the future.

Do you feel enough is being done to eradicate racism in football?

I think a lot of people are doing all they can - but you can’t change everyone. It’s a slow process but with all the recent stories in the news - any press is good press, I guess.

Was the decision of players such as Rio Ferdinand not to wear the ‘Kick It Out’ campaign a good move?

I feel that this is a case of each to their own. If players like Rio think not enough is being done, that’s their opinion and they have a right to express it.

Which club has changed your career the most?

I would have to say Ipswich for giving me my first professional contract, but equally Charlton for handing me my Premier League debut.

Who is the best manager you’ve ever played for?

That’s a tough question, but I’d have to go for George Burley at Ipswich, or Alan Curbishley for giving me my first Premier League game with Charlton.

Who is the best defender you’ve ever played against?

Another tough question as I’ve played against the likes of Sergio Ramos and Rio Ferdinand, but I have to say Ledley King. He’s not just strong and surprisingly quick, but his reading of the game is world class.

Who has been your favourite striking partner up front?

I’d have to go for either Kenwyne Jones at Sunderland or Marcus Stewart at Ipswich. Although, Dimitar Berbatov was sensational at Tottenham.

You have a prolific goalscoring record at every club you’ve played for, but is there a particular goal that stands out as your favourite?

It has be against Burnley at Turf Moor when I was with Ipswich in 2004 - cutting in off the wing and smashing the ball into the top corner. There’s no better feeling!

Do you feel you are doing enough to warrant an England call-up?

I feel like I’m playing well and hopefully I can get more time on the pitch to continue my good form - and the rest is totally up to the England manager.

Would you follow the recent trend of players in their early/mid 30’s in considering a move to the MLS or Australian League in your latter years?

Right now all I’m focused on is playing for Aston Villa and doing the best I can here. Maybe once my plans for my time at Villa are complete, I may consider a move abroad.

Stay tuned to FootballFanCast as we will be organising interviews with more personalities from the game in the coming weeks.
