Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner will give Paul Lambert a sizeable transfer kitty this summer as reward for staving off relegation.
The Villa chief has guided the club to virtual Premier League safety following a run of five wins in their last eight matches to sit five points clear of third-bottom Wigan with just two games remaining.
Villa travel to face the Latics on the final day of the season already knowing a point would be enough to keep them up should they lose to Chelsea on Saturday.
Therefore Villa’s America-based owner, Lerner, is preparing to fly into Birmingham once safety is assured to reward Lambert with more funds to ensure he can take the club forward next term.
The former Norwich chief brought in Christian Benteke, Ashley Westwood, Matt Lowton, Ron Velar, Jordan Bowery, Karim El Ahmad and Joe Bennett last summer at a cost of £23million.
And with more funds forthcoming Lambert is reportedly busy preparing to go on some scouting missions across Belgium and Holland to try and unearth some more hidden talents, particularly following Benteke’s huge success following a £7million switch from Genk.
