Chelsea & Liverpool eye defensive ace

Chelsea and Liverpool are watching soon to be out of contract Fenerbahce defender Caner Erkin, according to the player’s representative.

The Turkish star is due to be a free agent in a few months’ time, with his deal at the Istanbul club set to expire.

As one of his nation’s top full-backs, interest in Erkin is high and his agent, Batur Altiparmak, says that Liverpool and Chelsea are among the names chasing his client:

“I don’t usually like giving names but it is great for the players confidence that clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea are showing an interest,” he Is quoted by The Metro.

“However, a few clubs have made offers for Caner, two clubs from England have made a bid and he has also received offers from Spain and Italy.”

The 25-year-old 26-time Turkey international has made 100 outings for Fener, and is one of a small group of players to have also played for bitter rivals Galatasaray.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea are known to be looking for left-backs going into the summer, with the Reds having been playing rookie Jon Flanagan in the role and Jose Mourinho having relied on right-sided defender Cesar Azpilicueta after losing faith with Ashley Cole.
