The Colombian international was heavily linked with both Premier League clubs over January, with some reports suggesting that bids for his signature were made.
With neither side having snapped him up, speculation has gone on to suggest that summer swoops are on the cards, with United and Chelsea both said to be looking strengthening their central options at the next available opportunity.
Guarin’s future at Inter has been in some doubt for a while, with his current contract due to expire in 2016.
The Serie A side are believed to be evaluating their high-earning stars after their recent takeover, with some on large salaries expected to be cut loose.
However, it appears that Guarin will avoid the chop, with the player himself stating that he expects to sort out a new deal soon:
“The President knows about the player I am,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
“We have talked about a contract renewal and we will do it soon.
“I want to give everything for Inter and for the fans who have always believed in me. I am relaxed and happy and the boss knows what I can give.”
