Chelsea are considering a shock move for Queen’s Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin in a bid to bolster their front line ahead of next season reports the Daily Star.

The Rs forward struck an impressive 18 Premier League goals last term, although it wasn’t enough to stop the Londoners from avoiding relegation to the Championship.

Having made his way into the England squad, Austin is expected to make a swift return to the top flight and could make a surprise switch to Stamford Bridge this summer with Jose Mourinho keen on strengthening his forward line.

Didier Drogba has already confirmed his departure from Chelsea, and with uncertainty surrounding the future of Loic Remy coupled with Diego Costa’s fitness issues; Austin is being targeted as a potential signing.

The 25-year-old is expected to cost around £15m, and recently stated his intention to play Premier League football once again next season.

"I feel like I've worked hard enough this season for QPR to try to be a Premier League player," he said.

"I've come out a couple of times and said, 'I don't set myself targets'.

"But going into the Premier League for my first season, I said that eight to 12 goals games would have been perfect for me. Luckily enough I exceeded that and got 18. And missed two penalties."

Chelsea won the league title in convincing fashion, but know they need a few signings in order to fend of competition from their rivals next season.

Austin however is focussing on his time with England before making a decision on his future.

"After these two weeks, I'll sit down with the club," he added. "But I just want to be fully focused on these next two weeks with England.

"I want to enjoy these next two weeks and then who knows what the future will hold for me?"
