One transfer that nobody saw coming in January has to be Ramires' move from Chelsea to Jiangsu Suning for £25m. The Brazilian left Chelsea after six years, in which he was in and out of the team. For Blues fans, he was the unsung hero whom helped to boss the midfield, as well as create excellent scoring opportunities.

As an avid FIFA player, I was often on the wrong end of one his excellent thunderbolts from range - one of his many talents as a player. Out of all of Chelsea's midfielders, he was the most flexible, someone who could create attack, but also shield the defence.

Chelsea now have Cesc Fabregas, who is attack-minded and John Obi Mikel and Nemanja Matic, who are very defensive. With Ramires being sold, Chelsea may have lost some dynamism. Was their decision a poor one?

Ramires was part of Chelsea's recent success domestically and in Europe, winning the Europa League, Champions League, Premier League, League Cup and the FA Cup. Though he never played a large role, he helped to provide goals and scored some crackers. For two years in a row, Ramires won the Chelsea goal of the year, illustrating just how special his talent was, and still is.

In recent years under Mourinho, he hasn't been as appreciated as he should have been, with the signing of Fabregas rather limiting Ramires' first team opportunities. Fabregas had a great first season, being the main provider for Chelsea, which led to them winning the double last season.

Yet this season, Ramires should have been started more, as he could have helped to provide that spark which Chelsea so desperately needed. Considering no replacement has been bought in for the ex-Benfica man, Guus Hiddink is really taking a big risk for a club in need of talent.

Players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek will have to step up and take this opportunity, but it will be a long development. The 20-year-old still has a lot of years ahead of him, and could be the only person to benefit from Ramires' departure. But by pushing this youngster too early, it could break him.

Ramires, if he had been given more of a chance at Chelsea, could have become that consistent player many hoped he would be. Instead he has gone to China, where he can have an easy ride, as well as make an awful lot of money. Whether the football in China is anywhere near as competitive or at a good level as it is in the Premier League is yet to be seen. But Ramires can now become a star of that league.

Considering he is an important player for Brazil, Chelsea really should have aimed to keep him until the summer at least, rather than let him go so early. This is a player whom had been linked with Real Madrid only last summer, highlighting how highly regarded he is. At the age of 28 and in the position he plays, he will be around at the top level for at least five years more: five years and a lot experience Chelsea could have benefitted from.

Only at the end of the season can it really be judged just how wrong Chelsea were to let the Brazilian go. But considering there is not a proven replacement for him that has been bought in, it will be a very risk move.
