Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says that Diego Costa’s move to Chelsea is not yet a done deal.
The Spain international – who was born in Brazil – has been heavily linked with a switch to the Blues for some time, with various reports having suggested that the transfer is all but sealed.
Although Costa’s performances for La Roja at the World Cup were below par, he is considered to be one of European football’s very best marksmen after firing Atleti to a shock La Liga title last term and a spot as Champions League runners-up – he limped out of the final with a hamstring injury.
Chelsea are rumoured to be ready to trigger his £32m release clause to get a deal done, but Cerezo says that nothing is finalised just yet:
“We don’t know anything about Costa, all we know is that Chelsea have made contact but we haven’t received any money or anything else yet,” He is quoted by The Express.
“Until we receive the money from his buy-out clause, he remains an Atletico player.”
Cerezo was however less dismissive about Thibaut Courtois’ situation – the goalkeeper has been on loan in Madrid from Chelsea:
“Chelsea can count on Courtois, because he is their player.”
