Barcelona are planning a £25million bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz as a replacement for club legend Carlos Puyol, who has confirmed this will be his final season at the Nou Camp, according to the Telegraph.

The Catalan giants hope to conclude a deal swiftly before the World Cup finals in June, with Luiz an integral part of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil squad.

Barcelona had a formal bid for Luiz rejected last summer, with Jose Mourinho adamant the defender was not for sale.

Although Luiz was not attempting to engineer a move, the form of John Terry and Gary Cahill this season, alongside the recent £12.5million signing of Kurt Zouma, means the Blues may well consider cashing in.

Barcelona may have to offer more than  €30million if they are to get their man, after Luiz was signed by Carlo Ancelotti from Benfica in a deal that was worth £21.5million plus Matic.

Barcelona were understood to have offered just over £20million last summer, with the Blues demanding £50million in an attempt to end their interest.

Bayern Munich have previously been linked with the Brazilian international, but Barcelona have always be considered the front-runners for his signature.
