Barcelona plot big money Chelsea raid

Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea)Barcelona are plotting a £20m move for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, according to reports from CalcioMercato.

The Belgian stopper has emerged as one of European football’s top talents over the course of the past couple of years, and has been tipped to become one of the very best ‘keepers on the planet.

Despite being a Blues player since 2011, the 21-year-old is yet to make a single appearance for the Londoners.

Upon his arrival from Genk, Courtois was immediately loaned to Atletico Madrid, where he has remained ever since.

He has impressed in Spain, and was a key part of the club’s Copa del Rey winning and Champions League qualifying 2012/13 campaign.

His fine displays have caught the eye of Barca, who are planning for life without current number one Victor Valdes – who is set to leave the Nou Camp next year.

Courtois is seen as the ideal replacement for the Spanish international, and is thought to be keen to make the move.

The La Liga champions are ready to spend £20m to push through a deal, and are hopeful that Chelsea will accept.

Courtois would likely be confined to the bench should he return to Stamford Bridge, with Petr Cech established as Jose Mourinho’s number one.

Should Thibaut Courtois be given a chance at Chelsea?
