Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has confessed that he doesn’t know if Daniel Sturridge will still be at the club after the January transfer window has closed.

The striker has been heavily linked with Premier League rivals Liverpool recently, with some outlets reporting that a £14m fee had been agreed.

However, there are now rumours that the England international’s move is on the rocks, with personal terms yet to be finalised.

Benitez refused to establish whether or not his back-up forward would be leaving the club:

“We will see. You never know in the market.” He told the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle.

“I don’t know what they said, because I didn’t read the press.”

The Spaniard went on to claim that he has not had much contact with Sturridge lately:

“He was training with us yesterday,

“But that was just one training session. So now we have to wait, because he was injured.

“To be fair, I only saw him three times last week, so he couldn’t train too much in this time with him.”

Chelsea are thought to be keen to offload the 23-year-old as they look to free up space in their squad to bring in a big name centre-forward.

Atletico Madrid’s prolific Colombian Radamel Falcao is said to be their top target.
