Chelsea defender Ryan Betrand wants to be made the club’s number 1 left-back, and has admitted he will leave if he cannot be promised that by Jose Mourinho.
The Daily Star are reporting that the 24-year-old has spoken about his desire for regular football, and is willing to leave Europa League champions Chelsea for a number 1 spot elsewhere: “Come the summer I need to be the No.1 left-back, wherever that will be.” said Betrand.
“I have ambitions but I have to be realistic as well. I will sit down and consider all my options. Staying here isn’t something I would rule out. I’ve had years of playing but since I was 17 I have been on loan, basically.
“I’ve spent the past few years at Chelsea, in and out of the team, and the experience I’ve gained from that is I’m happy just playing. That’s what it comes down to in football. If you’re getting the respect from your peers that you deserve, that means a lot.”
Bertrand has spent the majority of 2014 on loan at Aston Villa, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole battle for the left-back spot at the Bridge. But with Ashely Cole’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season, Bertrand has sensed it is now or never if he wants to be the number 1 left-back for Chelsea.
