Chelsea’s best goal scorer of the season is currently injured, creating a bit of a problem for Jose Mourinho. Diego Costa picked up a hamstring problem and it's thought he will be out of action until May. To add to their woes, Loic Remy is now injured, too. Remy’s issues occurred in training ahead of Chelsea’s clash at Loftus Road with struggling Queens Park Rangers. Who does that leave to bang the goals in for Chelsea? Didier Drogba? But, is he a valid starter?

Understandably, the odds are against Drogba. He is 37 years old - a dinosaur in footballing years. Diego Costa is just 26, and Loic Remy is 28; a bit of a difference between the starters and the back up. And the differences truly show. Drogba just cannot keep up with play in the same way the other two manage to, Diego Costa especially.

Chelsea’s game against QPR was arguably their dullest of the current campaign. The Super Hoops definitely gave the Blues a run for their money, and were unlucky not to salvage at least a point from the clash. Only one goal separated the two, from Cesc Fabregas, but the 90 minutes as a whole were pretty even.

Of course this is not solely down to the back up option of Didier Drogba, but it did not help the situation. Chelsea had just one shot on target during the game, and their pass completion was at its lowest for the season - 70%. QPR are not a side you would expect to put the league leaders under pressure, but they did.

“Ninety minutes is too much for someone not playing a lot”, Mourinho said after the game. And he is right. Drogba has not exactly featured heavily in this campaign and it showed. 90 minutes was stretching the player, and he did well to play the full game, even if he had limited impact.

It’s pretty clear that Drogba has done an okay job, but he's not up to Chelsea standard. Jose Mourinho can only hope that Remy’s injury is minor, because Drogba will not be able to handle playing full games anymore.
