Chelsea defender David Luiz is understood to be top of Barcelona’s summer transfer wish-list, according to the Daily Mirror.
Barcelona vice-president Javier Faus revealed the club will spend big to strengthen their squad in the summer, and the Chelsea centre back is a priority signing.
Faus said: “We will be making some big investments in the transfer market this summer. Our financial situation will not be an obstacle.”
“We are ready just like we will be ready in the future. The club’s main priority will always be to maintain sporting excellence.”
Barcelona have recently found themselves caught up in a financial scandal following the signing of Neymar last summer, but that has not stopped them chasing Luiz, who they see as an ideal replacement for club legend Carlos Puyol who is retiring at the end of the season.
Luiz has not been a regular starter under Jose Mourinho this season, and the club may be willing to cash in this summer, especially as £12million January signing Kurt Zouma will be joining with the first team at the end of the season.
Mourinho is not a big fan of Luiz’s flamboyant style, whilst Barcelona have already begun planning a move for the defender who is set to star for Brazil at the summer’s World Cup.
