Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Cesc Fabregas will be a success at Stamford Bridge, describing him as the “missing piece of our engine”.

The Blues snapped up the classy playmaker from Barcelona ahead of the World Cup in a £27m deal.

There was much speculation surrounding his switch back to English football, with Arsenal – whom he captained until 2011 – reportedly passing on a first option to re-sign him.

Chelsea then swooped, with Mourinho setting about early plans to build a side capable of claiming Premier League glory.

Fabregas recently netted his first goal in the blue shirt during a pre-season friendly against Vitesse Arnhem, and his boss believes that he will be a big influence in west London:

“(Fabregas represents) The missing piece of our engine,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“We are so happy. He has a football brain we need in our team. So our club have done very well. All the players have a fantastic feeling around Cesc.

“We want to move in a different direction. It’s something our football needs.

“I see him [Fabregas] everywhere, because he can play everywhere. His best quality is the speed at which he analyses the game and executes. He’s very intelligent. And he gives you goals.”
