The Blues are set for a major summer in the transfer market, with Jose Mourinho keen to bolster his squad after growing frustrated and concerned by a lack of depth in certain areas.
A new striker and a left-back are believed to be seen as priorities, with ‘The Special One’ unconvinced by his options in either role.
The likes of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have struggled to score the goals needed for a sustained title charge, while Cesar Azpilicueta – a right-back – has been playing on the left side of defence due to Ashley Cole’s dip in form.
Mourinho has identified Cavani and Shaw as his top targets, and is said to be looking to get both players in before the World Cup starts.
Cavani is thought to be his top priority, with the PSG man rumoured to be unsettled.
The Uruguayan international only joined the Ligue 1 champions last year, but has become frustrated at playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Shaw is also a target, with the Southampton ace having been in excellent form this season.
The teenage defender is wanted by a host of top clubs, but Mourinho is confident that a move to Chelsea – whom the player supports – can be pushed through.
