Chelsea captain John Terry has confirmed his desire to stay at the club after their 1-1 draw against champions Leicester City on Sunday.

The centre-back was in an emotional state when he addressed fans following their chants wishing him to stay, in which he stated that he does not want to depart the club while thanking them for their support during their difficult season.

“We all want the same thing,” he is quoted by Daily Mail. “I've said for a long time I want to finish my career here. I'll be speaking to the club over the next few days. I want to stay. I want to.”

“We've had some great times. Thank you for the support this year. We'll be back next year and we'll be fighting for the title.

“On a personal note, I'd like to thank everyone. This season's been tough for me, very emotional. So, thank you.”

Before discussing his current situation, Terry was full of praise for former manager Claudio Ranieri and his amazing achievement of guiding Leicester City to the title, while also taking a swipe at Tottenham by saying he’s glad they didn’t become champions.

He said: “I'd like to congratulate Ranieri, the Leicester team and the Leicester family. I'm glad Leicester have won it and I'm glad Tottenham haven't.”

The Blues confirmed last week that Terry was offered a one-year extension, but the 34-year-old is still considering his options amid interest from China.

However, former Arsenal ace Thierry Henry, who is now a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Terry’s tears seem to indicate that he will be leaving in the summer.

“That was a bit weird for me,

“I thought it was just an end-of-season captain's talk but then when he started to get emotional and cry, why would you start to cry and be emotional if you are sure you are coming back? It's weird.

“If you are not coming back, is that a proper signing off for the man? I don't think that's a proper signing off. I said so many times that he should stay. Is he going to start or not? That's up to the next manager. It looked like because of his tears that he is not coming back. It will be a mistake if he doesn't.”

Terry has made 33 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring one goal.
