However with interest in the Colombian high, Mourinho is said to have draw up a list of alternatives, with Paulinho among those names.
The Brazilian only moved to Spurs over the summer from Corinthians, but with uncertainty gripping the ort London side rumours of a switch away from White Hart Lane have begun to circulate.
Spurs recently sacked Andre Villas–Boas, and are yet to name a successor after a poor start to the season.
Chelsea are keen to use this set of circumstances to tempt Paulinho away from their local rivals, with Mourinho thought to be an admirer of the dynamic midfielder.
It remains unclear as to whether or not the 25-year-old would consider a quick move, but he could be tempted by the prospect of playing alongside international colleagues such as David Luiz, Oscar and Willian at Stamford Bridge.
As well as Paulinho, Benfica ace – and former Chelsea youth player – Nemanja Matic is also on their radar.
